The content and format of safety data sheets appear from the revised requirements under Annex II to REACH that entered into force on 1 January 2021. The scope of ECHA’s enforcement project is to carry out inspections during 2023 to ensure that safety data sheets (SDSs) comply with the requirements.
High non-compliance of SDSs
Previous enforcement projects and activities show that inadequate content and non-compliance of safety data sheets is a long-lived issue. The latest enforcement project in 2013 found more than 50% of the safety data sheets to be lacking in information.
With more than a year ahead to the implementation of the 2023 enforcement project, companies have time to plan updates of safety data sheets and ensure safe communication of their products in the supply chain.
