GHS – eight revised edition

We have scanned the eight revision of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) and give you an outline of some important amendments. The revision was published in December 2019.

Amendments to the previous edition include:

  • Addition of a new hazard category ”Chemicals under pressure”: classification criteria, label elements (incl. H282, H283, H284) and decision logic.
  • New provisions for the assessment of skin corrosion and skin irritation hazards (in vitro/ex vivo methods, non-test methods).
  • Extensive explanation on the use of precautionary statements.
  • Amendment to and deletion of existing precautionary statements.
  • New precautionary statements.
  • New labelling examples: sets or kits.
  • Guidance on the identification and communication of dust explosion hazard (other hazards not resulting in classification).
