Amendments to safety data sheet content and format

The latest amendments of ANNEX II in the EU REACH Regulation introduce important changes in the safety data sheet content and format. Changes will apply from 1 January 2021.

The most significant changes concern the following sections:

a) Section 2 and 11: information on endocrine disrupting properties must be indicated.

b) Section 3: the following information must be indicated, where relevant:
     i. Specific concentration limits, M-factors and the acute toxicity estimate (ATE) for substances listed in CLP, Annex VI;
     ii. Information on particle characteristics in case of nanoforms;
     iii. The criteria for including substances in this section are better specified and Table 1.1 has been updated.

c) The most comprehensive changes concern information requirements for Section 9 on physical and chemical properties. They are too detailed to be included here and we refer to ANNEX II.

d) Section 14: more details are provided on the information that must be indicated in this section.

The changes in ANNEX II will apply from 1 January 2021.

Safety data sheets can still be authored based on the current format until 31 December 2020 and can be provided along the supply chain until 31 December 2022.
