Candidate List updated with new substances

Eight new substances of very high concern have been added to the EU Candidate List, which means new obligations for suppliers of the substances.

Substances may be added to the EU Candidate List if they are considered very harmful to people or the environment such as CMR substances and PBT/vPvB substances. Substances on the Candidate List are known as SVHC substances (Substances of Very High Concern).

ECHA regularly assesses all SVHC substances to decide whether some should be added to the Authorisation List under REACH. The aim is to replace SVHC substances with less harmful substances whenever possible.

Legal obligations
Suppliers of SVHC substances on their own, in mixtures or as part of articles have several legal obligations such as delivery of safety data sheets, information on safe use, notification to ECHA and in the SCIP database (articles only) and information to consumers about SVHC´s in articles.

The Candidate List now contains 219 substances. Click to see the new SVHC substances.
