Denmark lowers limit value for chromium VI in work environment

The Danish Ministry of Employment has announced that it will tighten up the regulation for working with chromium VI compounds.

As of 1 July 2020, the occupational exposure limit value for chromium VI compounds is expected to be lowered to one fifth of the present value to 0.001 mg/m3. Only France and the Netherlands have limit values at the same low level. In four years’ time the aim is to reduce the limit value further to 0.00025 mg/m3.

Chromium VI compounds are carcinogenic, and the substances have been the subject of considerable debate in Denmark. In addition to the new occupational exposure limit value, guidance for working with chromium VI compounds and other initiatives will be launched.
