Denmark retains lower limit value for cadmium

Denmark is allowed to keep a stricter limit value for cadmium in phosphorus-containing fertilisers, even though there are harmonised rules in the EU with a higher limit value.

In June 2019, the EU decided to harmonise the rules for CE-marked fertiliser products. A limit value for cadmium in fertiliser products was set at 60 mg cadmium (Cd) per. kg phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) in CE-marked phosphorus-containing fertilisers.

However, the EU Commission has approved that Denmark can retain its existing and lower limit value of 48 mg Cd/kg P2O5 for cadmium in phosphorus-containing fertilisers.

The previous Danish executive order from 1989 has been updated to make it clear where the Danish limit value applies in relation to the EU Fertilising Products Regulation. The new draft executive order has been submitted for public consultation and can be seen here (in Danish).
