Expected approval of active substances in disinfectants

ECHA’s Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) supports approval of two ammonium chloride active substances used in disinfectants and Union authorisation of an insecticide.

At a meeting in October, the BPC has given its support for the approval of the following existing active substances:

  • ADBAC/BKC (alkyl (C12-16) dimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride)
Products based on ADBAC/BKC can be used as general disinfectants in animal areas (product-type 3) and can be applied as general disinfectants in food and feed areas in product-type 4.

  • DDAC (didecyldimethylammonium chloride)
Products based on DDAC are disinfectants to be used in animal areas (product-type 3) and can be applied as general disinfectants in food and feed areas in product-type 4.

Moreover, the BPC backs EU-wide authorisation for an insecticide containing clothianidin and pyriproxyfen for use in pest control (product-type 18).

The final decisions on approval rests with the European Commission and the EU Member States.
