OECD test guideline for in chemico testing updated

A new corrected version of OECD Test Guideline 442C allows for testing for skin allergy without the use of test animals.

In June, OECD adopted eight updated and corrected Test Guidelines for chemicals safety testing.

Most noteworthy is that TG 442C on In Chemico Skin Sensitisation allows for testing of substances for their potential to cause skin allergy without the use of test animals.

The guideline provides an in chemico procedure (Direct Peptide Reactivity Assay, DPRA) used for supporting the discrimination between skin sensitisers and non-sensitisers in accordance with the UN’s Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
