Are you ready for SCIP?

From January 2021 new information requirements for ECHA’s SCIP database apply to articles containing substances from the Candidate List above 0.1% w/w.

SCIP stands for Substances of Concern In articles as such or in complex objects (Products). It is a requirement to notify data on substances of very high concern (SVHC) for all articles or products comprised of several articles.

A screw is a single article, whereas a cabinet is assembled of several articles such as sheets of wood, screws, a handle etc. Medical devices and packaging are also articles.

As of 5 January 2021, all manufacturers, suppliers and importers of articles in the EU must submit information to the SCIP database if the article contains SVHCs on the Candidate List above 0.1% w/w.

To be submitted via IUCLID dossier
The information must be submitted to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in a IUCLID dossier. In addition to information on the content of SVHC substances, instructions on safe use and disposal as well as information enabling identification of the article must be included.

As an importer or supplier of articles in the EU, it is essential to have good communication with the article manufacturer to obtain information on the content of SVHC substances. Please contact us if you need help to communicate with suppliers or to compile and submit your dossier to the SCIP database.
