GHS rev. 9 changes criteria for explosives

Revision 9 of the UN Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) was released in September. Revisions mainly affect explosives.

The main changes in GHS rev. 9 (2021) relate to the modified classification criteria and label elements for explosives. Explosives are divided into three new classes with new hazard statements and new precautionary statements for each class.

Hazard statements previously associated with explosives are deleted and are obsolete.

The revisions concerning explosives have been implemented to better address their explosion hazards when they are not in their transport configuration.

The 9th revision is part of the recurrent biennial revisions. It was released by the UN and is available for free here.
